Adopt a Spot

Erie County Recycling & Litter Prevention is promoting their Adopt-A-Spot program, which encourages churches, families, organizations and just concerned citizens to show their civic pride and volunteer to clean up a designated area of their choice. The commitment is for one year and requires three clean ups during that time. Several groups have made this commitment, but we are encouraging others to join in. Erie County Recycling & Litter Prevention publicly recognizes these groups for their selfless efforts to improve their neighborhoods by battling litter. 11th Annual Billman Outing

Day of Fun, Great Golf. Terrific Food

Hole in One by Chris Wechter, winner of a new car from Dorr Chevrolet/Hyundai.Lightning struck literally and figuratively at Thunderbird Hills South on Wed., Sept. 26 as a cool, gray day turned into a torrential downpour, complete with bone-jarring thunder and lightning strikes.

But those clouds held a sterling silver lining for Chris Wechter, who aced a hole-in-one on the 15th hole, earning him a new Chevrolet HHR LT from Dorr Chevrolet/Hyundai.

The 30-year veteran golfer used a 7 wood club to make the 170-yard drive. He became convinced that such a feat could be possible more than a decade ago when playing at Sawmill Golf Club in one of the Chamber’s first Don Billman Memorial Golf Outings. “I had what I felt was a great shot that day and watched the ball roll right up onto the green and head for the cup. Then I watched it just slip on past the hole,” said the Huron realtor.

“We were on the 16th hole when we heard all kinds of shouting and turned around to see Chris and his teammate, Huron School Superintendent Fred Fox, jumping up and down in a jubilant hug,” said Bruce Molnar, owner of the Milan dealership that sponsored the contest.

Knowing that he’d hit a pretty good drive, Chris lost sight of the ball as it neared the green. “When we saw Kathy Hammond and Arlene Zucco, spotters for the contest, jumping up and down and pointing at the hole, all of us took off running,” Fred recalled.

Their yipping and shouting could be heard all around the tree-lined course, as news spread of the amazing shot.
